Below and Beyond are delighted to announce that on a recent survey project in a Welsh quarry we were tasked by our client at Viewport 3 with providing video footage of known targets and targets acquired during the subsea survey.
The entire project ran by Chris and Richard at Viewport 3 consisted of topside photogrammetry and LIDAR, provided by Michael at Leaping Wing, and subsea photogrammetry and multibeam survey from a small vessel provided by Rich at Astramarine. There was also a sediment sampling team onsite.
The project took place over 5 days and involved us setting up our kit in various locations around the quarry. We initially dived on the known targets as the multibeam survey took place and then moved onto the targets provided by the survey.
The visibility was crystal clear and the targets were interesting to say the least. It’s not often, as an ROV pilot, you have the privilege of flying the ROV in such a great setting!
We had a great time and tested the Buerov2 down to almost 70m water depth which she handled very well! We obtained some great footage using Eiva's Mobula for Bluerov2 and with a ROV as solid as the Bluerov2 we incurred no downtime during the entire project.
Combining all the topside and subsea survey data, along with our video footage, a full and comprehensive survey of the entire quarry was carried out to a high standard. All in all a very successful project which we enjoyed immensely, as did the Bluerov2!

Fantastic visibility as we fly around this cockpit, precariously balanced on the edge of a ledge!
The window in this submerged container acted like a mirror offering us the opportunity to get some footage of ourselves!
